Saturday, June 24, 2023
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Oakland Asian Cultural Center (OACC)
388 9th St Ste 290, Oakland
KULARTS presents Agos Elements: Spring 2023 Dance Recital as a part of KULARTS’ Agos Youth Program, a youth dance performance of various Philippine folkloric dances with Rondalla music accompaniment contextualized through the elements of nature—earth, fire, water, and wind.
Over the course of the spring season, Agos teaching artists and students addressed the history of colonization, immigration, cultural and racial equity issues impacting the Pilipino youth and their families. By intertwining art and political education, the students look holistically at ideas around healing and belonging, informed by traditional practice, but within the context of the Bay Area’s diasporic Pilipino community.
This program was supported with funding from the California Arts Council.

ABOUT AGOS PROGRAM
Agos (“currents or flow”), founded in 2009 as American Center of Philippine Arts (ACPA), is an Oakland-based community arts program of KULARTS teaching youth (ages 5-17) and families folkloric dance, its musical accompaniment and its origins. The curriculum is contextualized with indigenous belief systems and related cultural practices such as weaving, farming, fishing.
