Produced by La Mezcla & KULARTS/Alleluia Panis Dance Theatre, join us at Eastside Arts Alliance & Cultural Centerin Oakland, CA for this exclusive WAA Showcase! Complimentary hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served.
This showcase features dance and music as living archives of migration, resistance, ancestry, memory, and cultural survival. The artists span many traditions (Filipino, Indian, Latin American, Japanese, African diasporic, etc.), but they're connected by stories that move across borders and generations.
Tubong to Living Ancestors explores the intersection of indigenous ritual and contemporary performance homage to diasporic Pilipino and Asian legacy artists and culture bearers. We honor [12] Pilipino and Asian American legacy artists and culture bearers with new works and restaged works from 1980’s & 1990’s. The Alleluia Panis Dance Theatre will perform to the music of John Calloway (music director) on percussion and flute, Francis Wong on sax, Chris Trinidad on bass, and on kulintang ensemble Conrad Benedicto and Jinji Saysa.
*Tubong is traditional celebration ritual, typically performed to honor elders and connect with ancestors.
